Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital & Research Centre, A Unit of Tata Memorial Centre under Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, operational since 2014-2015 in temporary make shift cabins, finally has been commissioned and operational. As we wrap up another remarkable year, my heartfelt gratitude for each of our staff and the collective achievements we've accomplished together. Our annual report serves not just as a reflection of our past endeavors, but also as a guiding force into the future.

The year 2023 has been very challenging and saw a sea of change in the landscape with all the new blocks operational. Several services including out-patient clinics, joint tumor boards, pharmacy, state-of-the-art laboratories - surgical pathology, microbiology, hematopathology, biochemistry and molecular diagnostics, inpatient facilities - male, female & paediatric (general and private) wards with 202 bed strength, high dose radio-isotope therapy wards, modular operation theaters (7) with post operative recovery and Intensive Units, and Radiation block with state-of-the-art Radiology (CT/ MR/ US/ Mammography/ OPG), Nuclear Medicine (PET-CT / SPECT) and Radiation Oncology set-up (2 Truebeams, 1 Bhabhatron, CT Simulator & Cobalt brachytherapy) are fully functional.

With overall commissioning of all the facilities, we now provide affordable, evidence-based, high quality comprehensive services for common cancer screening, evaluation & work-up, treatment and palliation. Cancer patients from Andhra Pradesh & neighboring states of Orissa, Chattisgarh, Jharkhand and Telangana avail the facilities.

As detailed in this report, in 2023, with more than 7000 new cancer cases registered and more than 4000 admissions, approximately 1700 major/supra-major surgeries, 15,000 day care services and 1500 radiation therapy including brachytherapy were offered. Approximately 2000 new patients attended Preventive Oncology dept for cancer screening and more than 8000 patients availed Palliative care services. Apart from Hospital services, several community based programs – health education in schools, training programs for health workers and screening camps for the benefit of society have been carried out.

Many departments are now working on starting several training programs - both scientific & medical specialities. In 2023, 4 MD (Radiation Oncology) seats have been recognized by NMC and the first batch admission successfully done. We also have now increase in the staff working with us in administration (General, Accounts, HRD, Engineering), Nursing, Scientific and Technical in various departments.

With regulatory approved Institutional Ethics Committee and Clinical Research Secretariat, there has been a steady increase in the new projects and publications. With near completion of the entire facility, we look forward for further expansion of the facilities to cater for increasing number of cancer patients, patient hostel, Bone Marrow Transplant Unit, Augumentation of Manpower etc.. I feel proud, humbled and extend my heartfelt thanks to every staff - Medical, Scientific, Nursing, Technical, Administrative and others for all their hard work and dedication in shaping up this Institution. Finally, I would like to acknowledge and appreciate very much the efforts of Tata Memorial Centre and Department of Atomic Energy!

Going forward, the opportunities before us are vast and exciting. I have no doubt that we will continue to achieve greater things in the years to come...
